This weeks Follow My Book Blog Friday features Pendantic Phooka and Drying Ink:
Question: Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story? If so which one?
Darkfever – but mainly because I found Mac so annoying that killing her off wouldn’t have made me shed a tear. People keep telling me I need to read the second book and that she does get better but really, I just wanted to send her back to Mattel and get a refund. And, well I never really believed the world building in the story anyway so the baddies weren’t as believable as some. Sorry but if you keep needing to stop and tell me what’s going on in the middle of the scene something’s not working.
This actually comes down to one of those “good author” things for me. If the author has done her job then I should buy into the fact that the baddies deserve to loose. If I haven’t brought that simple premise then I’m not likely to have liked the book full stop.

I’ve never read that series, but it’s always on everyone’s lips it seems.
I couldn’t actually decide on anyone!

I definitely agree- a great author can evoke emotion in a positive way or a negative way toward characters by using good writing. I’ve never read Darkfever- but I’m not sure I want to try now! lol

I have yet to read this series but know it’s very popular. So many books, so little time. I’m you’re newest follower via email and would love for you to visit me when you get a chance.

I’d say give the series another shot. Mac never really bothered me in the first place, but I will agree: she changes a LOT throughout the series, so if that’s what you’re looking for, it might be worth it.

I probably will give it another shot at some stage. There’s just sooooo many other books I find myself reaching for first. One day though. Perhaps in audio. Maybe Mac will come across as charming instead annoying in audio format (here’s hoping anyway)

Haven’t read the series yet. I couldn’t come up with a villain I’d have liked to “win”. Thx for stopping by my FF post at http://bookthatthing.blogspot.com
Happy Friday 🙂

Haha good pick! I had to stop reading Darkfever half way through, I just couldn’t stand Mac. A lot of my friends have told me she gets worse in the second book and then starts to improve later in the series. I just can’t put myself through it.

I couldn’t finish the first Fever book; I always feel bad quitting early in case the character evolves, but…just couldn’t handle Mac.
Thanks for the FF visit! I’m a subscriber. 🙂

Wow – I have found my people! Most people rave on how great Darkfever is and how hot Barrons is. Uh… he was kind of intriguing but he didn’t ring any bells.

Hmmm. I have been thinking about starting that series, but I don’t know now! I agree that some main characters get so annoying you wouldn’t care if they died. LOL!

Great answer! I’ve never read Darkfever, but it doesn’t sound like something I would enjoy. Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks for stopping by my blog – I’m now following you, too.
Have a great weekend! 😀

Oh yeah I heard numerous terrible things about Darkfever and it’s flibbertigibbet protagonist, can’t be doing with silly girly characters like that. My pick was the ever unlucky Wile E. Coyote, I just really hoped he would finally win one day. Never happened *sigh* Stupid Roadrunner.

Thanks for stopping by over at Drying Ink – and I’ve certainly felt like that before, as well. Whiny, pointlessly angsting protagonists… Gah. 😛 Really makes you wish for some more George RR Martin character treatment. I’m following back!

I’m totally late in my reply, but thanks for stopping by last week! I admit, the Fever books are probably my favorite series, but I can see how Mac would be perceived as an annoying barbie doll. She does get infinitely better through the series and becomes totally kick ass though!
